The takahē is one of New Zealand's most extraordinary birds — once thought extinct, this magnificent creature was rediscovered in the Murchison Mountains in 1948 and has been the subject of careful conservation ever since. Today, Tiritiri Matangi Island is one of the few places in the world where you can encounter a takahē in the wild.

This photograph was taken on Tiritiri Matangi — a predator-free sanctuary island in the Hauraki Gulf that has become one of New Zealand's great conservation success stories. The island's open grasslands give the takahē space to roam, and on a good day, to pose.

What makes this image so striking is the colour. The takahē's vivid cobalt blue and emerald green plumage is almost impossibly saturated — the kind of colour that looks like it belongs in a tropical rainforest rather than on a New Zealand island. Please note:

• 20cm x 30cm prints will be sent flat in a reinforced envelope.

• Panoramic and photographic prints sized 45cm x 30cm and above will be sent rolled in a tube.

• All prints will be sent tracked through New Zealand Post until their size limit of 1.5 metres has been reached.

• We crate our largest prints to ensure their safe arrival and use Post Haste or Mainfreight for delivery.

• Prints will be finished, packed and sent within 3 weeks of ordering.
