West Coast Maps
Drawn up in 1930 under Surveyor-General H. E. Walshie, this plan lays out the scenic reserves of Westland in the detail only a working survey map can hold — glaciers, moraines, snowfields, and the rivers threading down from the Alps, all marked alongside the tracks, huts, and provisional state forest of the time. Franz Josef and Fox sit at the heart of it, their reserves marked out in acres, with Aoraki / Mt Cook anchoring the southern edge of the map.
It's a working document rather than a decorative one — reserve boundaries, peak heights, hut locations — but that's exactly what gives it its character. This is Westland as the Lands and Survey Department actually saw it, at a moment when the scenic reserves that protect this landscape today were still being drawn up and argued over.
A striking print for anyone who knows this part of the West Coast, or who has stood at Franz Josef or Fox and wants the history of the place on their wall as much as the view.
This map comes in a square aspect and we offer two different finishing options. Please choose from the following selection to make it your own.
Acrylic Print
Perfect for any room where gallery quality is optimal, our Acrylic Prints are also ideal for bathrooms and wet areas.
Your map will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional substrate using archival inks, and then mounted in-house on crystal clear acrylic for a back-lit appearance and unrivaled vibrancy.
Finally, it will be seamed with 4mm ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) for a modern frameless finish. A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.
ACM Wall Art
Our ACM Wall Art prints are sleek and non-reflective. Your photograph will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional Paper using archival inks and then mounted in-house on 4mm ACM. A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.
