The Cape Reinga lighthouse stands small on the last headland of the north, with the ocean on every side. Below the dark hillside, white water breaks against the rocks. This is Te Rerenga Wairua, the leaping place of the spirits.

Native bush closes in around the stream at Whangārei Falls | Otuihau. A footbridge crosses high above the water, and beyond it the falls tumble in pale ribbons through the green. In the foreground the pool swirls and slows, the movement of the water drawn out in a long exposure.
