This exceptional photograph of Tree Trunk Gorge covered in volcanic ash is unlikely ever to be replicated.

We were certain the mountain was going to blow and put a helicopter on standby - but the morning Te Mari Craters finally vented the light was flat and low, and there were no photographs to be found.

We followed the TV crew cars around the Central Plateau; everything was caked with ash. Only at the very end of the day did we arrive at an old haunt of mine, Tree Trunk Gorge.

Setting up my tripod on the bridge by my car lights, I composed the shot in the eerie stillness. I was fascinated by the ash covering one riverbank and the pristine nature of the other and I still to this day think it is one of the finest photos I have ever captured.

Available now from the boutique studio of New Zealand photographer Corin Walker Bain, this image has been released as a Limited Edition in three sizes; 100cm x 66cm, 120cm x 80cm and 150cm x 100cm.

Limited Edition prints are signed and numbered on the back, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, camera capture details and the tale of the image itself.

Once the edition is complete it will be permanently retired with no further prints available for sale. Prices may increase as an edition starts to run out.
