City of Christchurch Map (1926)

from NZ$219.00

By 1926, Christchurch had grown well beyond the English ambitions of its founders, but the bones of their original vision are still visible here in perfect detail.

Hagley Park anchors the map with a wash of soft green, the Avon threading its way through the middle of the city. The colour coding tells its own story: city and borough boundaries in red, public reserves in green, railways picking their way through the outer suburbs, the Papanui Road corridor heading north. It is a document of a city at full stride.

Drawn by A. Plimbach and published in 1926, this is the NZ Survey Department working at the height of its craft. The detail is extraordinary: individual sections numbered, parks labelled, the borough boundaries marked with care.

Made for a large hallway, a generous study, a living room wall with room to breathe. It suits a home with Canterbury connections or a professional office in the central city.

The perfect gift for the a Canterbury University graduate, the Cantabrian living away from home or anyone who wants to understand what Christchurch looked like before the world changed it.

This map comes in a unique 10 x 9 aspect and we offer two different finishing options. Please choose from the following selection to make it your own.

Acrylic Print

Perfect for any room where gallery quality is optimal, our Acrylic Prints are also ideal for bathrooms and wet areas.

Your map will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional substrate using archival inks, and then mounted in-house on crystal clear acrylic for a back-lit appearance and unrivaled vibrancy.

Finally, it will be seamed with 4mm ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) for a modern frameless finish. A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.

Wall Art on ACM

Our ACM Wall Art prints are sleek and non-reflective. Your photograph will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional Paper using archival inks and then mounted in-house on 4mm ACM.

A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.
