Petone and Hutt Map (1922)
Petone and Hutt Map (1922)
This Map of Petone and Hutt Boroughs from 1922 captures the very place where New Zealand's first European settlers came ashore in 1840 — before the winds and the harbour convinced them Wellington was a better bet.
This vintage map charts Petone and Lower Hutt in extraordinary detail — the railway lines threading through the borough, the Hutt River winding down to Port Nicholson, the Te Aro Native Reserve, and the great flat of reclaimed land that was already becoming an industrial heartland.
This map would look superb hanging in your lounge or bedroom. Its warm pastel tones — borough boundaries in red, railways in gold, the harbour shimmering in teal — would make a timeless addition to any Wellington home.
It would make a wonderful gift for anyone with roots in Petone or the Hutt Valley, for lovers of Wellington history, or for anyone who appreciates that New Zealand's story very nearly began somewhere else entirely.
This map comes in an 8 × 10 aspect and we offer two different finishing options. Please choose from the following selection to make it your own.
Acrylic Print
Perfect for any room where gallery quality is optimal, our Acrylic Prints are also ideal for bathrooms and wet areas.
Your map will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional substrate using archival inks, and then mounted in-house on crystal clear acrylic for a back-lit appearance and unrivaled vibrancy.
Finally, it will be seamed with 4mm ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) for a modern frameless finish. A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.
