Map of the City of Wellington (1899)

from NZ$325.00

This Map of the City of Wellington from 1899 is an extraordinary window into New Zealand's capital at the turn of the century.

Produced just six decades after European settlement, the map reveals a Wellington that would be barely recognisable today. The colour-coded reference legend tells its own story — marking out the Lunatic Asylum, the Orphanage, the Signal Station, Native Reserves and Hospital Endowments across the city. Lambton Harbour stretches wide before the great reclamations that would reshape the waterfront, and the suburbs of Karori, Brooklyn and Newtown sit at the very edges of the settled city.

This map would look superb hanging on your office or lounge wall. The colour-coded aesthetic — with its bold yellows, greens and pinks mapping the Crown lands and endowments of a young colonial city — would add a touch of vintage charm to your space.

It would make a superb gift for lovers of Wellington history, anyone with roots in the capital, or simply loves the story of how this remarkable city came to be.

This map comes in a 2 x 3 aspect and we offer two different finishing options. Please choose from the following selection.

Acrylic Print

Perfect for any room where gallery quality is optimal, our Acrylic Prints are also ideal for bathrooms and wet areas.

Your map will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional substrate using archival inks, and then mounted in-house on crystal clear acrylic for a back-lit appearance and unrivaled vibrancy.

Finally, it will be seamed with 4mm ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) for a modern frameless finish. A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.

Wall Art on ACM

Our ACM Wall Art prints are sleek and non-reflective. Your photograph will be printed in our boutique print studio on Kodak Professional Paper using archival inks and then mounted in-house on 4mm ACM.

A custom hanger is attached before the print is securely packaged and sent to you, ready to hang on your wall.

Please note:

All maps come with their original patina and stamps, adding to their character.

Maps will be finished, packed and sent to you within 3 weeks of ordering.

All prints will be sent tracked through New Zealand Post until their size limit of 1.5 metres has been reached.

We crate our largest prints to ensure their safe arrival and use Post Haste or Kiwi Oversize for delivery.
