Taupiri and Ngāruawāhia map (1928)
Taupiri and Ngāruawāhia map (1928)
This New Zealand Survey Department map of Taupiri and Ngāruawāhia from 1928 is a classic piece of history.
It features details like the Main Trunk Line (established in 1877 when the town was briefly named Newcastle) and the Waikato (Hopuhopu) Military Camp on the banks of the Waikato River. This vintage map also shows Taupiri Mountain, a sacred burial ground for Waikato Māori.
This map would look superb hanging on your office or lounge wall. The soft hand-coloured aesthetic — showing contour lines, swamp areas and roads — would add sophistication to any space.
It would make a superb gift for anyone with a connection to the region — whether they grew up in the Waikato, have whānau ties to Ngāruawāhia or Taupiri, or simply love the history of this iconic stretch of river.
This map comes in a 5 x 7 aspect and we offer two different finishing options. Please choose from the following selection.
